Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important political figure commented the attack made him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
