The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Relationship.

We present a challenge for long-term couples who enjoy scary movies: Get comfortable with your partner and view Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its online premiere via Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like typical biological terror, but within Together exists a profound meditation about our choices in loving one another.

A Debut Feature Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together represents the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Millie and Tim, partners that have remained a couple for a decade. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a unique chemistry to their roles, expertly portraying both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The narrative commences when Millie and Tim transition from the big city to the country for her career. A somewhat stereotypical narrative setup, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the cliches conclude. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While walking near their new home, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim tumble into an underground cave. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a strange force takes hold of the couple. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past simple connection.

The entire film is a slow burn fright fest, interspersing bits of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic interactions (sometimes amidst something grotesque). Shanks orchestrates these parts expertly and wraps them up in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A great deal of Together is exclusively Brie and Franco, and they masterfully render manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is waning due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve left the city and removed from his network of friends. He is terrified of the idea of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is amplified by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie avoids making Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Both characters confront the sort of issues that come with long-term unions after ten years. Fundamentally, they have affection for each other. They still laugh together, offer support, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these fears of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the allegory does not come across as clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about codependent relationships. Reports indicate that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion inspire anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your other half and state, “We could get through that together”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can embark on today.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
